To find Seaton town centre from Fisherman's Gap look inland and the main high street is not quite dead ahead, more to the right and sort of dead ahead.
So cross the road and head over towards the shops you can see on the road more or less opposite.

On your way you will pass The Vault pub that used to be a bank and what was a large cafe and the banking hub (nobody ever in there except staff) that used to be Woolworths.
Heading up Fore Street Seaton
From the bottom the road starts off as Marine Place then forks and ahead is Fore Street and to the left is Queen Street. What is nice is the whole area is pedestrinised although you do need to keep your wits about you as quite a few cars seem to come down the roads!
Heading up the "Main" street that is Fore Street you will pass a number of retail units where they are not listed as everything seems to change about every four months. There are a lot closed and a lot closing down it seems at all times.

Frankly with so few visitors making a living out of a shop in Seaton has to be hard, but in every place you will find a warm welcome it must be said, probably because they are shocked to see a customer!
What is there in Fore Street Seaton
Those that do seem to hang on include a hairdressers and a butchers and one suspects the dentists do ok. Of course there are some cafés, and other shops but they are not listed here as they will be gone by the time you read this. The turnover is alarming, and very sad. Of course a number are charity shops now like most towns. At the top of the short hilll up through the shops turn around where the pedestian area ends and look down the hill, it is a fine view of the pretty shops with the sea glinting on a summers day in the distance.
Now you are at the top head to the right and immediatly you will arrive at The Gateway Theatre which holds regular events and just beyond that is Seaton Museum which opens periodically when the voulenteers turn up to man it. Be aware the museum is upstairs, there is no alternative access to the stairs.
What is there in Cross Street Seaton
Returning back to the head of the pedestrian area at the top of Fore Street to your right is Cross Street which is another retail area but where most of the shops have gone (correct 2026). To the left of Cross Street is a small recreation area where once a cinema stood, but that went many years ago. The Gateway now doubles as an occasional cinema.
At the end of Cross Street at the T-Junction you can go left or right. If you head right there are a couple of shops and there you will find a quite remarkable second-hand book shop and beyond it a decent car parts retailer and beyond it the police station. Heading the other way are several shops that are more offices really.
What is there in Queen Street Seaton
Turning left down Queen Steet you will find what was the library is now The King Fisher Centre run by the League of Friends offering support to the elderly (The library moved to the tourist information centre building by the sea front.) and also a Fish and Chip Shop and two pubs, Eyre Court (which is also a hotel) and The Malt House. There are a couple of other businesses including a picture framing shop, a barbers and a shop offering fabrics as well as curtains and blinds.
